A Statistical Look At The Start Of The Championship – The Teams

With the Championship season now five games in, we have decided to take an early look at what is going on in one of the most exciting leagues in the world, in my eyes.

In terms of teams  – Blackpool and Queens Park Rangers have risen to the top of the league, despite the former’s lack of fit players. QPR’s strength in depth is already scaring the pants off opponents and life is looking sweet again for Harry Redknapp.  Surprisingly, Bolton, who were many people’s tips for automatic promotion, are propping up the table with just two points and a minus seven goal difference.

But what about the statistics?

Well, according to WhoScored, Birmingham are the worst disciplined side in the English second division, with 12 bookings, while ‘dirty’ Leeds are actually the cleanest, with just five.

QPR have averaged the most possession with 57.1%, while leaders Blackpool are bottom of this table with just 42.7%. Smack-bang in the middle is Ipswich, with 48.7%.

The pass success table is no surprise, Watford lead with 84.9% with Brighton just behind on 83%, while Millwall sit at the foot of the table on 66.9%.

Watford also lead the ‘average shots at goal per game’ table with 17.2, Blackpool again are bottom with just nine.

The team most fouled, on average per game, are Reading on 14.8, while the least is Leeds on 7.8.

Wigan make the least tackles per game (12) whereas Charlton make the most (23.8).

The Hornets are the biggest dribblers, with 11.6 per game, and Ipswich have the least – 3.4.

Look out for our player statistics soon.
