Sir Alex Ferguson fluffed his lines last year when he allowed Paul Pogba to leave the club. While the wily old Scot was left longing for a powerful midfielder able to drive the whole side forward, Pogba was doing just that for Juventus in Serie A. After a sensational year in Turin, I take a look why the France international would be perfect for Arsenal as they continue their search for a Patrick Vieira type player.
His stature offers something the Gunners don’t currently have at their disposal, unless you consider Abou Diaby a real option, and his athleticism is something that few can match in the Premier League.
Despite being just 20 years of age, Pogba is a huge part to the Juventus side. He played 27 games last season, scoring five times and creating 22 opportunities, as well as completing 83% of his passes and winning 55% of his duels.
This season he has played in all three of Juve’s Serie A games as they remain unbeaten, averaging three defensive actions per game.
Arsene Wenger needs a bullish central midfielder to sit behind the likes of Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey, allowing the two to spark off him but also drive them forward with bursting runs from deep. The arrival of Pogba would certainly shore up the middle of the Emirates side and also allow the likes of Mikel Arteta to roam forward and exploit his inventive nature.
Pogba has completed 73% of his tackles this season (8/11) and also hit the target with half of his four shots at goal.
Gunners, would you welcome this man into your side, should the opportunity arise?
