Here are five Premier League players who have stood out for me so far this season for all the wrong reasons, along with their statistics.
Ricky van Wolfswinkel – Norwich
A lot was said when the Canaries snapped the big money striker up but he’s fallen well short of his expectations so far. He has scored one goal in his opening five games but offered little else. His pass accuracy has been awful (77%) and his sot accuracy even worse (33%).
Dwight Gayle – Crystal Palace
The huge fee excited some as to what we can expect from the young forward, but he’s yet to live up to the challenge of the Premier League. His shot accuracy stands at 29% and his duel success just 36%, while only 66% of his passes have met their target. The 22-year-old will have to up his performances from now on.
Iago Aspas – Liverpool
The forward is yet to show the Anfield faithful what he is capable of, although that may happen now Philippe Coutinho has been ruled out for a month. He has created seven chances for his new colleagues, but has completed just 25% of his take ons and completed 76% of his passes. A largely frustrating opening handful of games, and some of the Reds fans are already losing patience.
Jonathan Walters – Stoke
Although he has never been the most prolific scorer – The Ireland international scored 8 in 38 last season for Stoke – he has yet to impress this season. His shot accuracy stands at 38% and he has won less than half of his headers. Perhaps Mark Hughes has been a factor in his decrease in performance levels.
Mohamed Diame – West Ham
The powerhouse midfielder, who has been linked with Arsenal for some time now, has struggled so far this season. Although he’s picked up little niggles, the 26-year-old has played in all five of the Hammers’ league games but has offered little. He holds an 11% shot accuracy, created one chance and has completed 75% of his attempted passes.
