Although David Moyes relived the fears of some Manchester United fans with the signing of Marouane Fellaini on deadline day, the Scot still has some work to do to complete the middle of his team, in many people’s opinions. This could be eradicated in January, however, as Spanish sources are reporting that United are after former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song.
The Cameroon international was a firm favourite at the Emirates before he packed his bags and jumped ship to Barcelona last summer. The red half of north London was left weeping as yet another players left in search of trophies.
His switch started shakily, though, as he – along with Luka Modric – was voted the worst summer signing in La Liga. Some feat, considering the amount of mediocre players that were in contention. However, he soon came into his own and changed the opinions of plenty, playing 20 games and amassing a pass completion of 93%. He also won 55% of his duels and averaged four defensive actions per game.
Song is the perfect player for the United midifeld, in my opinion, as he would provide the balance for Carrick to allow Fellaini to drive forward. Should the Red Devils require his services then reports suggest that the Camp Nou side will demand at least £16m for the 26-year-old.
United fans, would you want Song in your side?
