Arsenal have a reputation of producing brilliant youngsters, and Arsene Wenger has a reputation for making them flourish. So who will be the next name into the first team from the lesser ranks? Here are 10 in contention, in no particular order.
1) Serge Gnabry
The young German forward has been making waves in north London. At 18 years of age he has already made six appearances for the Gunners and represented his country throughout various youth sides. A nippy forward who can play up top or on the wing.
2) Gedion Zelalem
Another German now in the shape of 16-year-old Zelalem. A central midifelder whose energy levels and work-rate give him an edge on his colleagues, the teenager is expected to have a successful career in football.
3) Zak Ansah
Another nippy little player who is a natural in front of goal, Ansah is comfortable either in a lone striker role or on either flank. The 19-year-old is progressing quickly.
4) Thomas Eisfeld
The German 20-year-old is thought of as Arsene Wenger’s first choice when it comes to the youngsters and his faith paid off when Eisfeld scored against West Brom in the cup last night. An attacking midfielder previously at Borussia Dortmund.
5) Ryo Miyaichi
A 20-year-old Japan international whose incredible footwork has caught the eye of whoever has seen him. The winger has spent time on loan at Feyenoord, Wigan and Bolton and has made six Arsenal appearances.
6) Damian Martinez
The 21-year-old shot stopper hails from Argentina and has represented him country at U17 and U20 level. He was a bit-part player in the cup for the Gunners last year.
7) Chuba Akpom
At just 17 Akpom has already made a real name for himself. Already representing the Gunners in the Premier League, Akpom has also represented England at youth level and is tipped to be a huge success up top.
8) Ignasi Miquel
Currently on loan at Leicester, The Spanish 20-year-old is trying to sculpt a name for himself. Standing at 6ft4 helps when it comes to being a defender, but so does having a huge amount of intelligence off the ball, which he does.
9) Joel Campbell
Joel Campbell was tipped to be the name in the academy that shoots up into the first team, but after loan spells at Lorient, Real Betis and now Olympiacos, you get the feeling at 21 this is his time to shine. Keep your eye on him.
10) Francis Coquelin
Maybe the most renowned figure in our list due to his appearances in the first team, the Frenchman is currently on loan to Bundesliga side Freiburg. Now at 22, if his spell in Germany goes well, I think we can expect him to be a big player for the Emirate outfit when he returns.
