Remember when some Arsenal fans were demanding Arsene Wenger out of the club? Yep, me too. But as soon as he splashed some cash on Mesut Ozil life in north London seemed sweet for the Gunners. But as they sit top of the Premier League, they head into the Champions League in mood to trump whoever comes their way. Here are 3 reasons why the Gunners can win the Champions League. No, really.
1) Strength in depth
Arsenal have started this season brilliantly, minus the opening day defeat to Aston Villa. The likes of Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud have really stepped their form up a gear after a poor showing last time out. They also have Ozil, who is the finest playmaker in world football, in my eyes.
Aswell as those mentioned, they are still waiting for the likes of Tomas Rosicky, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to come back from injury, as well as a little man named Santi Cazorla. Mikel Arteta is also finding his feet after returning from injury.
Look at those names – phwoar.
2) In Wenger we trust
As mentioned in the introduction, Wenger is now adored again at the Emirates. There are no more mass walk-outs, no more booing and certainly no more calling for the Frenchman’s head. Wenger has reacted impeccably to the pressure he was under and deserves respect for that. He knows what he’s doing, and if left alone I honestly think this is the year Arsenal break their trophy-less run.
3) Ooh to be a Gooner
Following on from that, the fans are back on side. Arsenal supporters get a lot of stick for the lack of noise they generate at home games, but they travel in huge numbers and make a racket wherever they go. Fair play to them.
