Can Celtic Repeat Last Year’s Victory Over Barcelona?

Sometimes miracles do happen in football.  Results that seem impossible are achieved and the dreams of thousands are realised.

Just under a year ago at Celtic Park was one of those occasions.  Given hope from a Victor Wanyama goal after 21 minutes, supporters of Neil Lennon’s side eagerly watched in anticipation of what would turn out to be a truly historic European night.  With belief surrounding the team from over 50,000 people inside the stadium, Celtic struck again with the game fast approaching full time.  An injury time goal from none other than Lionel Messi would act merely as a consolation for Barcelona, something which the Argentine forward is not accustomed to scoring.

The Catalan side had arrived in Glasgow and been beaten by the underdogs who pundits claimed did not have a chance.  Teenage striker Tony Watt had emerged from the bench to secure a Celtic win, scoring on his Champions League debut to overshadow one of the most famous players in the world and his illustrious teammates.  Some people might claim that such events are just not supposed to happen, but when they do it reinforces the belief of every young footballer who dreams of hundreds of spine-tingling scenarios the night before a game.

As Celtic prepare to take on Barcelona at Parkhead once again, a repeat result seems unlikely.  No more unlikely, however, than when the teams met last year.

A winning attitude is simple.  Whoever you are, whoever you face, never stop aspiring to achieve the unthinkable.  Let your mind be blown.
