The rebirth of Jose Mourinho at Chelsea has taken a few bumps of late. The Special threw a paddy in a press conference and stormed out over a simple question and fans have been critical with some of his team selections. However, a major positive this season has been the continued fine form of Brazlian midfielder Ramires. The Metro, however, are throwing cold water over the Blues’ hopes as they report that Real Madrid will throw a £15m offer at the club in January.
Former manager Carlo Ancelotti, who now sits proudly on the Los Blancos throne, worked with Ramires at Stamford Bridge and is keen to recruit him into his midriff in the capital.
Xabi Alonso’s fitness is apparently a doubt, and there are few box-to-box midfielders with the explosive, consistent performances that Ramires has showcased.
Ramires has appeared in all seven of Chelsea’s league games and has been deployed in one of the double pivots alongside Frank Lampard. He has created 10 chances so far, a tally only bettered by Eden Hazard and Andre Schurrle, and has kept things ticking in the middle.
Without Ramires Chelsea lack an energetic outlet with the capacity to defend and attack. It leaves the static Frank Lampard at a disadvantage as he would have to partner up with one of Mikel, Essien or David Luiz – all of whom are sluggish compared to the Brazilian.
He links defence to attack with ease and without him the transition between the two would break down. He has also scored two goals in the Champions League in just one game.
