Tevez Tells Manchester United Star To Join Him At Juventus, But Should He?

The Italians are renowned for their tight defences, their stringent style of play and their tactical genius. Compared to other top European leagues, Serie A is a calmer, more thoughtful game, and it’s no surprise that some of the top defenders currently, or have previously, have plied their trade in the Italian topflight. That includes Juventus, who boast the likes of Giorgio Chiellini and Adam Barzagli. But the Turin side’s summer signing Carlos Tevez is calling for former team-mate Nemanja Vidic to join him at the club in the summer, reported in the Metro.

The big Serbian’s Manchester United contract expires at the end of the season and an extension will reportedly be offered – for two years on bigger wages – but with the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling all competing for places, a switch to a league which thrives of defending may appeal.

So far this season Vidic has played six Premier League games, winning 8/10 of his tackles. Chilellini has won 15/20 of his, while winning 17/23 headers. Vidic has come out on top in 22/29 of his headers.

Vidic has averaged a hige 14 defensive actions per game this term – including 75 clearances – compared to Chiellini’s seven, and both players hold strong pass completion rates – The Italian 90% and Vidic 88%.

Imagine the duo in a pairing. That’s what dreams are made of in Italy.

Vidic’s style is perfect for Serie A and a fresh start may be exactly what he needs to rekindle his fine form.
