This season may be looking rosy for Arsenal tight now but there are still some aspects of their game in which they need to improve on. Arsene Wenger criticised his players this week for being naive in their 2-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund, so here are some of their underachievers this year.
Starting at the back, it’s not been a season to remember for Laurent Koscielny so far. The France international paired up with giant German Per Mertesacker and dominated the Premier League at the backend of last season, but this time out he’s been nothing but a calamity.
He was sent off early in the season and also gave away a couple of penalties, but he has played in 7/8 of the Gunners’ league games so he can have a bit of leeway. His passing has also picked up this term, with 91% of his attempted finding their target.
Turning our attention to a lesser part of the Gunners set up now in the shape of Nicklas Bendtner. The not-so-great Dane has been reintroduced to the squad as Wenger is low on options up top, but he is about as effective as a wet flannel. He’s played two games and has one shot.
Nacho Monreal is also struggling for form. His bit-part performances so far this term have deterred him from generating any momentum and his place has firmly been taken by Kieran Gibbs.
Thomas Vermaelen, Serge Gnabry, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Yaya Sanogo have also offered next to nothing, but it has been largely due to injuries or similar.
Gooners, who has been the worst player at the club for you?
