When Arsene Wenger dropped Wojciech Szczesny last season many believed that the Poland international would be shown the door at the Emirates and that Wenger would snap up another goalkeeper in the summer. And although the Gunners did make a signing in the shape of Emiliano Viviano – who joined on loan from Palermo – Szczesny is very much the north London side’s number 1.
However, the Daily Star are reporting that the Gunners could be in for Borussia Monchengladbach shot-stopper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen in what could be a £10.2m deal.
But how does he compare to the Pole in the Arsenal goal?
The German has played 10 games this season and kept just two clean sheets, the same as Szczesny but the latter has played a game less.
Szczesny boasts a higher saves per goal ratio (2.56) than Ter Stegen (1.86) but it is the 21-year-old German whose statistics look the stronger this term so far.
His 100% claim success betters Szczesny’s 94%, while he also averages more saves per game, but the Arsenal keeper concedes just a goal per game, whereas Ter Stegen is averaging 1.50 per appearance.
The duo are two of the finest young goalkeepers in European football and should Arsenal sign the German then their goalkeeping options would look superb.
