Throughout Jose Mourinho’s career he has set up his side with a strong, bullish centre-forward to spearhead his attacking unit. The most notable of these was Didier Drogba, who fired Chelsea to numerous trophies – so when the Portuguese manager returned to Stamford Bridge it seemed perfect with Romelu Lukaku also coming back to Stamford Bridge after a loan spell which saw him score 17 Premier League goals for West Brom the season prior.
However, with Samuel Eto’o being signed and Fenando Torres and Demba Ba both at the club, Mourinho decided that another season on loan would do the Belgium international well. But while Lukaku has scored five goals in six games, the Chelsea trio have racked up just one goal between them.
But Mourinho could make amends in January, with the Metro reporting that a move for Feyenoord forward Graziano Pelle could very well be on.
The 28-year-old stands at 6ft4 and has so far scored 10 goals in 11 games for the club. As you’d expect from a big target-man, Pelle is quite remarkable with his head. Four of his 10 goals have come from headers, with four being scored with his right and the other two with his left.
As well as that, 56/92 of his headed duels have been won and he has completed 7/8 of his take ons. His 8/9 tackle success is also something which stands out, as it suggests that he is more than happy to track back and help out the midfield.
On paper, Pelle is the perfect target for the west London club, and video footage of the Italian only supports that. Sit back and have a watch.
