Where Would £25m-Rated Midfielder Fit Into The Arsenal Side?

Although Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta have hogged the recent headlines in regards to their sterlinf performances from the central midfield areas, the Daily Star are reporting that Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan could very well be a target for the north London side. But where would he fit in?

Arsene Wenger already has Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and the aforementioned duo to choose from in the more defensive roles, and the likes of Tomas Rosicky and Mesut Ozil in the offensive central areas, as well as Spaniard Santi Cazorla.

Gundogan is a box-to-box midfielder whose technical ability has seen him labelled as one of the best at what he does in European football. The German international is currently sidelined with a back injury but was an integral part to any success that the Black and Yellows had last season.

He completed 87% of his passes in his 28 appearances and scored three goals, as well as winning 51/64 of his tackles.

The likelihood is that he would sit next to Flamini in one of the pivots as he offers more of a threat going forward than Arteta, but the trio would perhaps rotate in different circumstances.

He is a more athletic player than the former and probably a more silky player than the latter, but the fact of the matter is they are all fine players and the Gunners’ midfield would look exceptional should Wenger get his mitts on the Germany international.
