As we gear up for yet another round of the Champions League I take a look who the top tacklers are in the competition so far, according to WhoScored‘s average tackles per game.
1) Mikel Arteta – Arsenal
The Arsenal ace has really impressed spectators over the last year or so after dropping into a more defensive role. He is still able to release his creativity but his main role now is to shield the backline and he does it brilliantly. He has made 13 tackles in his two games – averaging 6.5 per appearance.
2) Arturo Vidal – Juventus
A supposed Manchester United target now in Vidal, who sits in the central positions and bursts from box to box. The Chilean midfielder has made 19 tackles in three games, averaging 6.3 per game.
3) Guillherme Siqueira – Benfica
The Brazilian has made 18 tackles in his three games in the competition, averaging 6 per games, as he continues to impress for the Portuguese side.
4) Mario Suarez – Atletico Madrid
Another Spaniard now in the shape of Suarez, who has also averaged 6 per game, but unlike the former trio he has only played the one game.
5) Javier Mascherano – Barcelona
The former Liverpool and West Ham man has made 11 tackles in his two games for Barca so far in the competition during his two appearances.
