The summer transfer window was ultimately deemed a successful one for Arsene Wenger, despite supposedly missing out on some targets. With rumours of a move for Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez not transpiring into anything, there was also a man up in the North East who failed to get his move.
Yohan Cabaye was said to have caught wind of the interest from the north London club and handed in a transfer request. Now, despite the Frenchman playing eight games this season from 10, the rumours have seemed to pick up once again, this time from the Express linking him with a move to Arsenal or Liverpool.
Cabaye is a player who is being wasted at Newcastle, in my opinion. His strengths sit on the deck, with the 27-year-old being technically-brilliant. Alan Pardew’s desire of direct football completely overlooks the midfielder’s talent.
Nevertheless, he has created 10 chances and scored twice, as well as averaging four defensive actions per game. Arsenal are already packed in the central areas of midfield, with Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Tomas Rosicky and Mesut Ozil, so a space for Cabaye may not be possible.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have seen the form of Steven Gerrard dip. Although the skipper’s performances are being questioned by some, they do still have Lucas Leiva, Jordan Henderson and Joe Allan in the deeper areas, as well as Philippe Coutinho just ahead.
Cabaye offers composure, a huge range of passing and he has one heck of a shot on him, too.
