5 Strikers West Ham Should Look To Sign In January

It’s been well documented that West Ham are in desperate need of a good striker that will consistently find the net for them. It’s not like the Hammers don’t have strikers, they do, but the forwards they have are either injured or just simply not good enough to help them climb the table. With Andy Carroll suffering another injury setback within the last few days and Ricardo Vaz Te also on the injury list, the club’s striking options have taken a massive hit as they now only have Mladen Petric, Carlton Cole and Modibo Maiga to choose from.

However, the three of them combined have mustered just one assist between and that was in the League Cup. What makes things worse is that they have 13 appearances spread amongst them in the Premier League. January should be used by Sam Allardyce to go all out for a striker that has proven themselves to score goals.

1. Jonatan Soriano

The Barcelona fans amongst you may remember this man as he spent some time at your beloved club, in the ‘B’ team, though, so maybe only the more dedicated followers will remember him.

Anyway, the 28-year-old currently plies his trade for Austrian side, Red Bull Salzburg where he has enjoyed a quite incredible season so far. He has scored an astonishing 23 goals and grabbed 16 assists in 21 appearances. Some quite amazing stats that would certainly please Sam Allardyce. £3 million is price tag floating above his head at the moment but that is likely to rise before January rears it’s ugly head.

2. Konstantinos Mitroglou

Stats very similar to Soriano’s in terms of scoring more goals than appearances, but also racking up assists in the process – Mitroglou has a massive 16 goals and 5 assists in 13 games. The 25-year-old also comes at quite a cheap price, £4 million is one of the estimates quoted. The player has been subject to interest from the Premier League in the shape of Liverpool and Arsenal, which shows that the player has enough quality to be a wise addition to the West Ham United ranks.

3. Alfred Finnbogason

Yet again, another player that has as many goals or more than he does appearances. The Icelandic striker is currently leading the line at Eredivisie club, SC Heerenveen. He has scored 13 goals in 12 appearances along with 4 assists. More great statistical evidence which I’m sure Allardyce will weigh up before making a move but with a price of just under £6 million being touted.

Maybe this is an offer which big Sam can’t help but recognise.

4. Graziano Pelle

The first player on the list to not have an average of more than one goal a game, but nevertheless, his stats are still very impressive as he currently sits on 12 goals in 14 appearances with 2 assists. Goals which has helped his side occupy fourth in the Eredivisie. A price tag placed above his head is one very similar to Finnbogason so although interest will be high, he will still be cheap. However, having just joined in the summer, Feyenoord will be very reluctant to let him go.

5. Alan

If any of you have searched for Soriano, then you may have found Alan as well because they both currently play for Red Bull Salzburg. The 24-year-old has also been in inspiring form, scoring 17 in 20 appearances as well as grabbing 11 assists. The Brazilian is, however, cheaper than his team mate so if Allardyce wanted cheap and cheerful then he’s the perfect player to buy to resolve their desperate striker situation.
