Ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Old Trafford this afternoon to take on Manchester United, here are three battles that you should look out for.
1) Ozil vs Carrick
The latter is going to have to keep a tight leash on the Germany international as his creativity has the potential to be a match winner this afternoon. Carrick will be the anchor in midfield, shielding the back four with his intelligence and passing skill.
The former Real Madrid playmaker has already racked up 20 key passes this season in just seven games and scored twice, as well as completing 87% of his passes, so Carrick will have to have his wits about him if he is to contain him.
He doesn’t possess the mobility that is needed, though, so may need the energy of whoever is sitting alongside him.
2) van Persie vs Mertesacker
The former Gunner is going to get a frosty reception from the fans making their way up from the capital and it will be up to him to silence them. The Dutchman has scored six goals in nine games so far and will be up against the giant German, Per Mertesacker, who is having a brilliant season.
The 29-year-old has completed 8/10 of his tackles this season.
3) Ramsey vs Cleverley
Ramsey is the north London club’s most impressive player so far with 11 goals in 17 games in all competitions, and it will be up to another young Brit to stick his foot in and make life hard for the midfielder.
