Chelsea snatched a late 2-2 at home to West Brom yesterday, so here are five things we learned from the clash.
1) Shane Long can jump
The Irishman showed some real determination to rise above Frank Lampard and John Terry for his goal, despite being about half their size, and thoroughly deserved to latch onto the loose ball.
2) Petr Cech is human
When Stephane Sessegnon unleashed a tame effort towards the Chelsea goal just after the hour mark few thought that it would nestle in the net, but due to some freakish circumstances – namely Cech not sorting his hands or foot out quick enough – the ball slipped under the Blues keeper.
3) Ramires is a midfield general
Forget about his controversial penalty, the Brazilian had a great game yesterday. Ramires completed 71/80 (89%) of his passes in the tie, as well as completing 2/3 of his take ons and making an interception.
4) You can’t dilly dally near Eto’o
We found out during the week that you can’t afford to fart around on the ball, with Eto’o pouncing on a Hildebrand error against Schalke, and he struck again yesterday. Liam Ridgewell hesitated inside his own area and the Cameroonian closed in and slotted it into the net.
5) Chelsea can pop it
Mourinho has the west London side popping the ball round nicely right now. The capital side completed 540/618 (87%) compared to the Baggies’ 201/268 (75%).
