Player Report: Why I Think Bundesliga Defender Could Be Perfect For Chelsea

David Luiz is causing Chelsea problems of late, making mistakes which have led to the Blues getting into trouble on the pitch. And although the West London side have plenty of cover with John Terry, Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic all able to play in the centre, I put forward the name of this centre-back and ask – could this be the man to lead the Chelsea backline for years to come?

Antonio Rudiger of Stuttgart is a real powerhouse defender. He stands at almost 6ft4 and has the intimidating figure of a professional wrestler. He is still only 20 years of age but he is steadily proving himself to be one of the most impressive defenders in the German topflight.

He has played eight games this season for his club, and has averaged seven clearances per game. He has also made 10 interceptions and 15 tackles, as well as showing his ability with the ball at his feet. Rudiger has completed 84% of his passes so far this term, which is a huge positive for the youngster.

He has the potential to be a top Champions League player, and for me would be perfect for the Blues, and maybe you will too after a short glimpse of what he’s about.

Enjoy this clip and tell me what you think.
