Messi Tells Barcelona To Swoop For Aguero, But Should He Go? Opinion

Sergio Aguero has his place in Premier League history locked down after that astonishing last gasp winner against Queens Park Rangers a few years back. You know the one – the goal which handed City their first Premier League title and at the same time denied arch rivals Manchester United what they thought was theirs. He has gone down as a City legend already, despite only being at the club since 2011.

But now he is being linked with a move away from the club, with the Express stating that Barcelona could make a move for the Argentina international. It apparently comes off the back of a Lionel Messi reputation, who is also Argentine, but if there was an offer there, should Aguero up sticks and leg it to La Liga?

My thinking is no, and here’s why. I can’t guess at his personal preferences or the difference in money, but I can look at his actions on the field.

Aguero is a player who thrives on the pace of the game. He is a busy little player who loves running at opponents, loves dribbling and loves bursting into little pockets of space. La Liga, on the whole, isn’t like that.

It is a far more laid back game in Spain, and I’m not sure if he would suit it as well. He is adored at City and can do no wrong, it seems, and it he is almost guaranteed a starting spot each week. Despite the amount of talent at the club, he is still regarded by many as the top talent there, a status he probably wouldn’t get at Camp Nou.

With the likes of Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Neymar and so on, he wouldn’t be considered a small fish in a big pond, so to speak, but there is certainly a potential that he is dwarfed by their talent.

He knows where the goal is, though, and that’s unlikely to change anywhere he goes, and I just hope he continues scoring his goals over here, rather than in sunny Spain.
