Why New Contracts For Carrick And Vidic Is A Shrewd Piece Of Business By Manchester United – Statistics

Nemanja Vidic is a real warrior of a player and has served Manchester United admirably over the years. He arrived from Spartak Moscow in 2006and has since established himself as a fan favourite – playing 276 games for the Old Trafford club and scoring 18 goals. And now, alongside Michael Carrick, he has signed a contract extension according to the Daily Star, which is my opinion could be David Moyes’ best move since taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson.

Here’s why.

Vidic is the one defender who United can rely on, in my opinion,as Rio Ferdinand’s game is being ripped apart by his ageing legs and Jonny Evans slowly slipping back into the calamity he once was.

The bustling Serb has averaged 14 defensive actions per game this season and won 73% of his 37 headers. He has also been successful in 10/17 of his tackles and is transforming Manchester United back into title contenders.

Carrick is another reason that the Red Devils are slowly climbing the league table, although he is now sidelined with injury.

He has appeared in 10/11 of the club’s league games this season and completed 86% of his passes. He has created 12 chances, averaged seven defensive actions and hit the target with 100% of his shots.

The two make up a large part of the United spine right now and tying them down to longer deals – Vidic 12 months and Carrick two years – is a remarkable piece of business in my eyes.
