Ryan Bertrand’s European debut was one to remember – he earned his place in the Chelsea side for the Champions League final against Bayern Munich, winning the competition with the Blues. Now, with Ashley Cole occupying the left-back berth at Stamford Bridge he has hardly featured since and has made just one appearance in the Premier League this season. Now, according to reports from the Telegraph, it seems as though Liverpool are ready to offer the full-back a way out of his west London nightmare.
It seems like a sensible move as Jose Enrique is injured until February and Aly Cissokho has started his Anfield career horribly.
Bertrand would fit Rodgers’ style of play as he is able to pass the ball about the pitch but also bomb forward at any given opportunity, and he’s got the energy that the Irish manager demands from his players. He has all the attributed needed to play as a wing back at Anfield or perform as a standard full-back, and he knows when to release the ball and when to run at players.
He completed 97% of his passes in his single outing against Cardiff this season and won both of his take ons, but with Cole and Cesar Azpilicueta at Mourinho’s disposal on the left then it looks unlikely that he will get a sniff any time soon.
