A Closer Look At The 3 Favourites To Win The Champions League

With the knockout stages of the Champions League fast approaching, and the identities of most qualifiers now known, I decided to take a quick look at three teams who may seem to be favorites to win the illustrious cup.

Bayern München:

The current holders of the title seem to be just as menacing as last season even after replacing the brilliant Jüpp Heynckes with the equally magnificent Pep Guardiola. With defensive solidity available in the likes of Manuel Neuer, David Alaba and Dante, a contingent of brilliant and multitalented midfielders such as Javi Martinez, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos, Mario Gotze, Thiago Alcantara, and Guardiola’s new surprise, Philip Lahm, Bayern have formidable numbers to back up their brilliant attackers – who include Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Thomas Muller. Bayern probably have the best squad depth in the world and it arguably makes them the favorites to win the Champions League.

Real Madrid:

While Real Madrid are not performing at their optimum levels in La Liga, the fact that they possess deadly players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Angel Di Maria should always make them a threat to any team.

The trio, added to the likes of Isco, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema have made the Spanish team a deadly force this season, especially in the Champions League. Add that to the huge experience that Carlo Ancelotti and suddenly, Madrid look like a real threat to Bayern Munich.

Arsenal:

Surprised? Don’t be. The Gunners’ brilliant performances this season appear to be more than just form; it seems to be a mentality. The north London side head into every game believing they can win it and the immense goal-scoring form of Aaron Ramsey, the link-up play of Olivier Giroud, the brilliance of Mesut Özil, as well as the defensive solidity of the Mertesacker-Koscielny duo helps them match up to any side.

Plus, Arséne Wenger appears to have regained his old hunger for victory and that is certainly terrifying for any team, be it Madrid, Bayern or Barcelona.

Agree? Disagree? I would love to hear what you think, so feel free to either comment or hit me up on my Twitter.

Till next time,

Omar Bahgat
