Despite the Chelsea frontline currently looking about as effective as a £10 fine to Roman Abramovich, Jose Mourinho has told the Telegraph that he won’t be making any moves in the January transfer window – a move that I believe could cost them the title.
Fernando Torres is past his best, I don’t think anyone is disputing that. Long gone are the days that the Spaniard is hitting 20+ goals in a Premier League season for Liverpool, although he did score 22 goals in all competitions last season, only eight were in the league, and he doesn’t look like he will ever reach those heights.
He’s scored just once in the league this season and has struggled to lead the Chelsea line when given the opportunity.
Samuel Eto’o is currently the club’s highest scoring striker with a measly two goals. He has scored almost 300 career league goals for some of the biggest clubs in Europe but he’s failed to really find his feet in the English top tier. He’s not getting any younger, either.
The only other option right now is Demba Ba, who scored his first league goal of the season against Southampton recently. He’s never really been a prolific front man but his link up play is often good and he’s a strong player, though he is unlikely to fire you to any silverware.
Should Mourinho not move for a striker in the new year then I fear that it could cost the Blues the title.
