5 Things We Learned From Chelsea’s 1-0 Win Over Steaua Bucharest

Chelsea completed their Champions League group games by beating Steaua Bucherest at Stamford Bridge to win their group. Here are five things we learned from the tie.

1) Ashley Cole still has it

People had started to question the left-back after he lost his place for both club and country – the former to Cesar Azpilicueta and the latter to Leighton Baines – but he returned last night and looked as though he’d never been gone.

He won both his tackles, made two interceptions and completed 92% of his 83 passes.

2) Terry stepped up

There are not enough words to describe just how strong the skipper was last night, so I’ll leave it to the stats. Terry made three clearances, two interceptions, won both of his headers, had a 100% tackles success and remarkably, this is my favourite statistic, he completed 95 of his 96 passes (99%).

3) Hazard on form

The little Belgian is a joy to watch this season and once again displayed how good he can be. This season in the Premier League he has already made 34 key balls and scored six goals, and he completed 89% of his passes, won 11 of his 13 attempted take ons and created two chances last night.

4) Szukala is a real asset to Steaua

The centre-back made eight clearances, four interceptions and won all three of his headers in defence. He also came out on top in all seven of his tackles.

5) Blues confident in their take ons

Chelsea attempted 40 takes ons during the 90 minutes and completed 25, something which shows just how confident they are in carrying the ball.
