Manchester City’s home form has been sensational this season. Not only have the Citizens won all seven of their ties at the Etihad but they have scored 29 goals and conceded just twice in the process. This weekend it is league leaders Arsenal who take up the challenge of tackling Manuel Pellegrini’s side, so here are a few pointers for Arsene Wenger.
Firstly, I think it’s important to pack the midfield. With City possessing Yaya Toure – the ultimate midfield player – it will be essential for the Gunners to somehow contain him or at least restrict the damage that he causes.
Having wingers who can tuck in – perhaps playing Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey on the flanks to come inside and support Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta wouldn’t be a bad idea, in my eyes.
Secondly, I would unleash Theo Walcott. When playing at City you know that there will be periods of the game that you will have your back against the ball and having someone you can lump the ball forward to and see him chase it could be crucial.
His speed could also prove a problem for the likes of Vincent Kompany, Martin Demichelis and Joleon Lescott, whoever plays.
Lastly, I would give Ozil a free role just behind the striker. His blistering form has slowed down somewhat but he still has the ability to unlock defences with ease.
Over 70% of the chances Arsenal have created have come from central positions.
