Do Messi’s cars match his outrageous talent on the pitch?

Many fans know him as the world’s greatest footballer and one of the most highly-paid sports people on the planet, but what do we know of Barcelona and Argentina forward Lionel Messi away from the Camp Nou? Given the amount of money he earns per year in wages and sponsorship, the little trickster certainly lives life in the lap of luxury.

Compared to his great rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, he’s not quite as prone to flashing the cash and bragging about the wealth which his immense talent has brought him. Nevertheless, Messi is planning to live in a football-themed house to help make it easier to look after his new-born son on the outskirts of Barcelona in rural Catalonia.

Speed is everything

As for his cars, Messi is no stranger to choosing models which get him to and from the Camp Nou in next to no time. Throughout his career, his car history has revealed a love of luxury sports cars, making him no different from many of his teammates or anyone else in the highest echelons of the game. His first car, bought after he came to prominence in the first team, was a Ferrari F430 Spider.

Since then, many of his current fleet of motors are in roughly the same vein. Among those that stand out from the crowd is the Audi R8. It’s one of the most popular cars with top footballers. Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, the two main pretenders to his crown as the greatest footballer in the world, also have one, showing that great minds think alike.

No imagination?

Looking at the list of cars which the Argentine has owned over the years, you might think that his tastes have changed. For the most part, he’s bought cars which share many characteristics with the Spider; although some like the R8 and the Dodge Charger SRT8 do stand out a little. More recently though, Messi has chosen a couple of cars which seem, well, sensible!

One is the Audi Q7, a bulky estate car which is ideal for the family man – enough room in the back for little Thiago to sit comfortably as well as his training kit for every trip to the training ground. Messi has also splashed out on a Lexus 4×4, which is ideal for anyone who wants to go on a road trip around the Catalonian countryside.
