Much has been said about Ashley Young over the last year or so. After his exciting performances for Aston Villa and a strong opening season for Manchester United after his move in 2011 the winger has failed to impress us. He can be predictable when on the pitch and is remarkably lightweight, a combination which has seen him struggle to find his feet under David Moyes this season. However, fear not United fans, as it seems that the 28-year-old could finally be shipped out, if the Daily Mail are to be believed, as they say he might be on his way to Villa.
Injuries have played their part, but whatever way you look at it you would have to say it’s a good move for all parties.
Manchester United would be getting rid of a complete flop, who signed for around £18m a couple of summers ago – he has contributed to zero goals this season in the Premier League – and it would make way for the younger, hungrier talent like Adnan Jaznuzaj and Wilfried Zaha.
Should the Red Devils make any of their money back then I would say that it would be a good deal, because he has looked extremely poor recently.
It could be good for Young, too, as he looks to better his reputation. He has been slated over the last year because of his dramatic falls and bookings for his diving, and it seems he can do no right at Old Trafford.
He could fit into Villa’s counter attacking football, as well. The Villains often sit back and let the opposition attack before springing into action, and Young still has a bit of pace left in his aging legs.
