A Closer Look At Ross Barkley – Everton’s Shining Star

It is a great credit to Everton that the Merseysiders have now entered the conversation about who will win the Premier League this season.

With Sunday’s 2-1 win over Swansea they are now fourth in the table and Roberto Martinez has got Everton playing some excellent stuff and their progress is represented by their impressive points tally.

Martinez was very shrewd in the transfer market as he managed to offload Marouane Fellaini for well over his worth and bring in Romelu Lukaku who has been magnificent. They have even coped with the loss of Leighton Baines with Bryan Oviedo filling in seamlessly at left back.

Ross Barkley has caught the eye, too, with some skilful performances at the head of Everton’s midfield. Only 20 years old, Barkley is being touted as the all new Saviour of English Football following Jack Wilshere’s slight downturn. A strong, physical presence Barkley also possesses a wonderful touch and is relentless in attack.

He has even taken to making himself look as scary as possible in order to frighten opponents therefore giving him more room to manoeuvre. Probably. But what is Barkey’s new completely shaved look all about? It’s winter for goodness sake.

Anyway, in case you missed it, here is Barkley’s sensational free kick that turned out to be the winner for Everton against Swansea on Sunday. The new Saviour of English Football? It’s too early to say but the initial signs are promising.

It will be difficult for Everton to maintain this kind of form but Martinez has got his team singing a sweet tune and Evertonians will be hoping that it will continue all the way until May.
