When Hull City were promoted last season it was off the back of a season where they were tight at the back and efficient at the other end. They didn’t score a great deal of goals, but they were able to grind out results under Steve Bruce and they certainly deserved their spot on the big stage. This season they have been somewhat of a surprise package – sitting in mid table having pulled off shock results against the likes of Liverpool.
Now it looks like Bruce is ready to kick on in the new year as reports come in of a move for two Premier League strikers – Everton’s Nikica Jelavic and West Brom’s Shane Long – both of whom would strengthen their side no end.
Jelavic has found it tough to fit into the side since the arrival of Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku but he has shown that he can still score goals when called upon.
He has scored twice in the single cup game he has played in this season, and for me will be a very good signing for the Tigers if it goes ahead.
Long, a Republic of Ireland international, is a classy little striker. His touch is second to none and you know that he will work hard up top. He has scored only three in five this season, but a move could spark his impressive form again.
Steve Bruce has done well, should he secure a move for both.
