Chelsea host Manchester United this afternoon in what is promised to be an enticing encounter. For me though there is only one winner, and that’s the Blues – here are three reasons why.
1) Rooney & van Persie
David Moyes has ruled out the pair due to injury, which for me is the main reason I think Chelsea will take all three points. While we all know what van Persie can do in big games, and how dangerous he is in and around the box, Rooney has also been in magnificent form this season and is often United’s creative hub, as well as centre-forward.
Between Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez, I’m not sure United will look very dangerous up top today.
2) Midfield battle
We have all seen analysis of United’s poor midfield this season and most of us have suggested names to fill the gap that seems to be in the middle of their team. Chelsea have the opposite headache, as big signing Nemanja Matic comes into a side with a wealth of midfield options.
Frank Lampard may miss the game through injury, but the Blues still have Ramires, John Obi Mikel and Michael Essien, as well as the aforementioned Matic.
3) Home soil for Blues
Jose Mourinho’s home record with all of his clubs have been impressive, but it has been 70 games now since his Chelsea side have lost at home, which is remarkable.
