5 Things We Learned From Manchester City’s 3-0 Win At West Ham

Manchester City beat West Ham yesterday evening 3-0, which saw them progress into the final with a 9-0 aggregate. Here are five things we learned from the tie.

1) Pellegrini open to giving youth a chance

The Chilean manager was obviously confident in progressing to the final, they were 6-0 up from the first leg after all, but he handed starts to Dedryck Boyata and winger Marco Lopes, who impressed immensely.

The 18-year-old looked comfortable on the flank, completing 88% of his passes, winning four of his dribbles and receiving 75 touches of the ball.

2) Strikers still scoring

Alvaro Negredo scored his 21st and 22nd goals of the season in the tie, and Sergio Aguero grabbed his 22nd, which is an incredible feat. Edin Dzeko also has 16 goals this season, though he played no part in last night’s game.

3) Away form getting stronger

Earlier in the season City struggled away from home. Now though they look solid both on their own turn and on the road – they are now unbeaten in 11 league games and through to the final of the League Cup.

4) Boyata still in plans

The young defender was sent off in City’s FA Cup tie with Blackburn a couple of weeks ago, and many thought that it could be the end of his time at the club. He played the entire 90 minutes of last night’s game, though, and put in a strong display, proving he is still in the plans of the manager.

5)  Pellegrini serious about silverware

As mentioned, City are now through to the final of the League Cup, but they are also only one point behind Arsenal in the league and are in the Champions League knockout stages. They are also in the Fourth round of the FA Cup.
