Manchester United Linked With Cavani Move, But Is He The Answer To Their Problem?

Some news to bring a smile to the faces of Manchester United fans across the globe now, as it appears that David Moyes will be handed a massive £150m war chest in the summer  to turn his sides’ fortunes around. The same reports – cited by the Daily Star – say that Edinson Cavani is a top target for the Old Trafford club, which begs the question – is the Uruguayan the answer to their problems?

Cavani is a superb player – he has scored 20 goals in his 29 games for Paris Saint-Germain so far – but the striker department is one that is currently tightly-packed at United. Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie are the current duo up top for the Red Devils, but they also have Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez in reserve.

Moyes would be improving the United frontline, there’s no question about that, but he would surely have to get rid of one or two that are already there. My bet would be Hernandez to go, as he has struggled for form, but Rooney could also be a good guess if he doesn’t sign a new contract.

For me the problem sits in midfield, where United lack a real midfield enforcer. The closest to what I would describe as a box to box midfielder that is at the club is probably Tom Cleverley, but for me he doesn’t have the technical ability to cut it at the top.

Rather than signing Cavani, if I was Moyes I would be looking to get a player in the mould of Ivan Rakitic. United fans, would you agree?
