If I was a Chelsea fan, right now I would be dreaming about just how powerful and dominant a force my team could be next season. That’s not to say I wouldn’t be enjoying this one – of course I would – but I think when Jose Mourinho shreds some deadwood in the summer and snaps up a world class centre-forward to lead his line that Chelsea can be right up there with the best on the planet.
To do so, I would first look at letting Ashley Cole, who is out of contract at the end of the season, leave the club and setting my left wing up around Luke Shaw. He may not be easy to sign seeing how highly he is rated, but if they can get him then I think he would improve the back four immensely as I rate him as the future of the England defence.
I would also look towards the likes of Edinson Cavan or Diego Costa to lead the attacking unit. Both have a physical presence and can throw their weight around, but most importantly have proven track records when it comes to goals.
I would also throw Mario Mandzukic’s name into the hat, as he has been scoring for fun at Bayern Munich for the past two seasons and could be under threat with Robert Lewandowski arriving at the club in the summer.
In short, I would let Cole leave, look to sign Shaw and start searching for a top class striker in the summer.
