With Liverpool battering Arsenal at Anfield a few weeks ago the Gunners were given a chance to get a little revenge. They hosted the Merseyside outfit at the Emirates in the fifth round of the FA Cup this afternoon and ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski, but Liverpool have the right to be slightly disappointed with being thrown out of the cup.
Liverpool were on the back foot early on, as you’d expect, but they ended the game with more shots than the home side and more shots on target, but Lukas Fabianski had a fine game in between the sticks.
For me Brendan Rodgers also has the right to be disappointed with Daniel Sturridge, who struggled to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and pull Liverpool level, or even ahead.
The England international had three shots during the game but failed to score and he looked unsure in front of goal – on a few occasions he hesitated with a shot and ultimately lost possession.
It will be difficult to take on the chin for Liverpool as they had a real chance going all the way – but for Arsenal perhaps they can use it as a platform to spark life back into the side.
