Despite being one of Arsenal’s better players this season, it looks as though Bacary Sagna will leave the club in the summer as his contract expires. There have been plenty of names doing the rounds as possible replacements, with the latest coming in the shape of Sebastian Jung of Frankfurt.
Reports suggest that the Gunners are moving closer to securing a deal for the 23-year-old, but who is he and what could he offer the north London side?
Firstly, I would go as far to say that the German defender is much more solid defensively than Sagna, though isn’t as impressive going forward.
His delivery is superb though – he has six assists to his name this season in his 27 Bundesliga games for Frankfurt, and knows when to leave the attacking to his more offensive colleagues.
He makes two clearances per game, on average, and 1.7 interceptions. He also makes 1.3 tackles, which adds up to five defensive actions per game.
He is comfortable on the ball too, which is crucial in the Arsenal set up – Jung has completed 80% of his attempted passed this season.
If I was Wenger then I would probably go for the youngster, but look for another right-back to come in and support him.
