According to reports, Arsene Wenger will sign a new contract at Arsenal and as a reward will be offered £70m to spend of transfers in the summer. Whether or not he should be offered a new deal at the Emirates is another discussion, but here are three players who I think Arsenal should be aiming for with that money.
1) Mario Mandzukic – Bayern Munich
The Croatia international is a natural goal scorer and has done just that again for Bayern this season. In his 29 Bundesliga appearances this season he has scored 18 goals, but may be forced to play a bit-part role with Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski coming in this summer.
I think he is the man to lead the Arsenal line.
2) Eliaquim Mangala – Porto
Per Mertesacker is a cracking centre-half, but he needs a quicker player alongside to cover him at times. Mangala is a monstrous 23-year-old defender who plays for Porto, but I think he has outgrown his stay in Portugal.
He is an athletic player who loves to play with the ball, and would fit in brilliantly with the Arsenal set up.
3) Micah Richards – Manchester City
Apparently a boyhood Arsenal fan, Richards can play either in the middle of defence or in the full-back position. With Bacary Sagna probably leaving in the summer, I think a player in the Richards mould would suit the Gunners. And with him not being a starter at City, a cut-price deal may be available.
