With Ryan Giggs set to take his first test as interim Manchester United boss, here are three reasons why the appointment was the correct one.
1) He knows the club
Giggs has been part of the Old Trafford set up since 1985, which is now 29 years. That’s some achievement, considering he is still only 40 years of age himself.
He knows exactly what the club is about – it’s ethos, the way it carries itself and most importantly what is expected from those who are employed to work for it.
Moyes did not have that knowledge.
2) The fans trust him
Following on from above, the fans know they can trust Ryan Giggs. He is a one-team man and will do everything he can to allow the club to succeed, and the supporters know this.
When Moyes spoke to the press it would usually spark some sort of abuse towards the Scot, but even in Giggs’ first press conference he seemed laid back and a natural fit into the role.
3) He cannot make long term plans
Giggs has been given the role until the end of the season, so he only has a few weeks to cut his teeth. This means he can get a taste of what the job is about, but he can only plan each game at a time. I often got the feeling the Moyes was looking too far into his six year deal.
