Chelsea are still fighting for the Premier League title, though they are now considered third favourites behind both Liverpool and Manchester City. They are also fighting for a place in the Champions League final and look a strong shout to get there. Jose Mourinho has been a success this season, but imagine if they had signed a quality striker in the summer. Well, a reported target for this time round has delivered a low blow to the Blues.

It has been widely reported that Diego Costa is a target for the Blues, but the Brazilian-born forward has rubbished reports linking him with a move to west London.

It’s a massive shame for those affiliated with Chelsea.

Costa is a bullish frontman who fits the mould of Didier Drogba, but he has more bite to his game. Last season he played understudy to Fadamel Falcao and managed 20 goals in 44 games, but he has eclipsed that this season, being the main man, with 35 goals in 46 outings.

He is strong in the air and would provide the physical presence that Mourinho craves, but he is also notably handy with the ball at his feet. Costa has made 43 key passes in La Liga this season and has three assists to his name.
