Liverpool may have fluffed their big chance to claim an unexpected Premier League crown following their 0-2 defeat at home against a superbly-organised Chelsea side. The plaudits will rightly go the Stamford Bridge outfit and in particular the tactical masterclass delivered by their manager Jose Mourinho.
However there is no need for the red half of Merseryside to panic. They are guaranteed Champions League football next season and the first piece of this jigsaw will start with the acquisition of Southampton playmaker Adam Lallana. According to the Daily Mirror, the 25-year-old has his heart set on a move to Anfield.
The midfielder has enjoyed a terrific campaign and is now strongly fancied to make Roy Hodgson’s squad for the World Cup. Lallana will cause problems to any side and I believe he has the quality to make the step up to Champions League level. He would provide Brendan Rodgers with two top drawer attacking midfielders.
The only other player who Liverpool currently possess similar in style to Lallana is Philippe Coutinho. Skilful, comfortable on the ball and the ingenuity to find a way through even the most packed of defenders. How Liverpool could have done with the services of Lallana on Sunday.
