With reports linking Real Madrid to a £70m move for Liverpool star Luis Suarez, here are four reasons why Brendan Rodgers must reject any sort of deal, and keep hold of him.
1) Goals
Obviously, this is the main factor behind my reasoning, as it would be with anyone’s. The little Uruguayan is a natural in front of goal and has proved that he can cut it with the very best this season.
Last time round he scored 30 in all competitions, which was over a 44-game span, but this time round he has 30 in the league, in just 31 appearances. He is the Premier League’s top scorer, by some margin, and it would be silly to get rid of him.
2) Replacements
Which brings me onto my next point – if he was to leave, who could Liverpool replace him with? They couldn’t, it’s as simple as that.
The little south American is amongst the very best on the planet, and not even £70m to replace that, in my opinion.
3) Link up
Suare brings the best out of those who play around him – just look at Sturridge and Sterling. The pair have scored 22 league goals between them, and notched 11 assists. Philippe Coutinho and Steven Gerrard also thrive playing with Suarez.
4) Legend status
After a controversial end to last season, he has got his head down, worked hard and regained the hero status at Anfield. With a few more seasons under his belt he could be considered a legend, whereas at Real Madrid he would just be another fish in the pond, I would imagine.
