Chelsea looked good to reach the Champions League final as they took on Atletico Madrid last night, but Diego Simeone’s men triumphed and left Chelsea licking their wounds in London. After a questionable performance, here are three Chelsea players who I believe are to blame.
1) Gary Cahill
When Chelsea needed stability at the back, the defence fell apart. Cahill was the main culprit in my eyes, and could see his place come up for grabs in the remaining games of the season if he doesn’t pick up.
As well as a booking, Cahill was dragged about the pitch and made to look a wee bit silly. Terry was forced to cover him a couple of times, though the skipper wasn’t great either.
2) Mark Schwarzer
After two superb games – the first leg of this tie and the shut out at Liverpool – Schwarzer showed why he was a second choice keeper. He did make five saves, but I can’t help feel he could’ve done better with the three goals that beat him.
Time for Petr Cech to come back into the side, I think.
3) Demba Ba
Mourinho chucked Ba on in the 65th minute to try and get the Blues back into the game after Diego Costa put the Spaniards in front. It didn’t happen though, as Ba offered next to nothing when he got on the pitch.
I think his time in a Chelsea shirt could be over.
