Eden Hazard Should Have Chosen Arsenal Over Chelsea – Here’s Why

Every so often in a manager’s career he will come across a player that he likes and will conduct a thorough investigation on the strengths of the talent. This happens by Sending scouts out all season long and making sure they establish contact with the man.

Regular talks will take place both on the phone and in person with the idea of making the player feel comfortable before he’s signed anything. Some managers are better at this than others, but it’s something you can’t teach. Some just have such a way with words that they could acquire anyone on the planet.

However, since the start of the Roman Abramovich era, money has become a new way of communicating to some players. Money has taken over the need for words and perhaps this is having a unconscious effect on some players.

It has been revealed the Daily Express just how close Arsene Wenger came to signing Eden Hazard before Chelsea swooped in with their millions and significantly turned his head. Arsene Wenger revealed that he even had his agent in his home ready to draw up some paperwork for his client to sign before the Blues ended Arsenal’s interest by offering the Belgian star something they could not – money.

But, things could be so much better for Hazard had he not had his head turned by the Stamford Bridge outfit. Maybe he wouldn’t have grown into a better player at Arsenal, however, you can’t ignore the fact that Wenger is better at developing younger players than Jose Mourinho. For all of Mourinho’s strengths, giving his youth a chance isn’t at the top of his concerns.

If Hazard had joined Arsenal he’d have, effectively, become an integral member of the team straight away, but, continue to learn from the players around him. Wenger is the type of manger that likes to hold hands with the youth of the squad and guide them through their early stages. If that player had a dip in form he wouldn’t use the media to criticise them like Mourinho has done recently.

It’s all ifs and buts and that will make my argument weaker but, I think it’s an interesting debate considering both managers track records with man-management of players. Chelsea fans won’t like this but, Wenger comes out on top in this battle. Maybe Hazard thrives off public criticism but, he seemed displeased with Chelsea’s defensive set-up which is one thing Arsenal aren’t known for.
