Manchester United have made a £27 million bid or Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, if you are to believe the Sun, which adds to a week of good news for the youngster.
Shaw was named in Roy Hodgson’s England World Cup Squad after a superb season at St Mary’s, and was also selected in the PFA Premier League team of the year. Not bad going for an 18-year-old.
Going back to the United interest – I think the signing makes perfect sense.
With Patrice Evra’s contract coming to an end this summer, it looks as though the France international will start afresh at a different club, so to secure a deal for one of Europe’s most exciting, young defenders would be a good move.
Shaw has the attacking tendencies that Evra is renowned for but is a lot stronger when galloping forward. His delivery is probably better than Evra’s, too, and he is 14 years younger than the United defender.
Shaw is the future of the England left-back position, for me, and United must go all out to smuggle him into the club. It’s a position that can be difficult to buy in at times and Shaw is surely there for the taking.
I say get him in.
