Arsenal will need to strengthen if they are to challenge for the Premier League title next season, there is no doubt about that. Where they need to strengthen is up for debate, but reports say they are keeping a close eye on Angel Di Maria of Real Madrid. However, I think they need to make a few signings before thinking about moving for the Argentine, so here are three I put forward.
1) Karim Benzema – Real Madrid
Di Maria’s team-mate should be first on the list of Wenger’s summer target. The Gunners need a striker to come in and support Giroud, and there are few better than the Frenchman. This season he played 34 La Liga games and scored 17 goals, as well as five in the Champions League.
He has the power and is a natural in front of goal.
2) Eliaquim Mangala – Porto
Although Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny have had another good season, on the whole, I think they need a younger, ball-playing centre-half to keep them on their toes and challenge for a first team spot.
Mangala is a powerful 23-year-old who has already established himself as one of the top young defenders in Europe and could be lured by the glory of the Premier League.
3) Mohamed Diame – West Ham
Probably not the most popular choice, but the Gunners need a big, strong central midfielder to add some mettle to their midriff. He’s good on the ball, creative, but isn’t scared of getting himself between the ball and his opponent.
