Chelsea fell flat in their search for a trophy this season because of one thing – their feeble strike force. That’s my opinion, anyway. Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o flattered to deceive, but it looks as though Jose Mourinho is ready to change that. The Blues are being linked with a move for Roberto Firmino, as well as Atletico star Diego Costa. If they land the pair, I see them winning the league next season.
The Costa deal has been in the pipeline for a while, and as far as I can see he is the perfect signing for the club. He is aggressive, will put himself about and most importantly he will, or at least should, score a truckload of goals for the club.
In the last two seasons, he has scored 56 goals in 94 games. That is a superb record at the level he is playing at.
Firmino is a less of a celebrity in the footballing world, but has had a superb season at Hoffenheim this time round. The Brazilian is primarily a central playmaker, though is comfortable operating as a striker or on either wing.
Still only 22, Firmino scored 16 goals in the Bundesliga season just gone and notched 11 assists, all in just 33 appearances.
The two would be superb additions.
