When David Moyes came into the club he was expected to make some big signings to keep the success coming into Manchester United. The only signing he made last summer was Marouane Fellaini, who followed him from Everton in a deal worth £27.5 million, but reports are suggesting the Red Devils will let him go for just £15 million a year later.
For me, it’s the right thing to do.
Firstly it shows that the United board are willing to start again, write off their losses and wipe the slate clean, if you will.
Fellaini just wasn’t good enough. Injury didn’t help, but in the 16 games he played in the league he managed just one assist, five key passes and completed just nine dribbles.
He was supposed to provide an aerial presence but that never happened, and the aggression that he used to play with at Everton had seemed to have disappear.
He’s unlikely to make much of an impact next season and I think United should try to recoup some of the money they spent on him.
