Mourinho Admits Fabregas Interest: Why £30m For Former Arsenal Midfielder Could Be A Bargain

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has is usually one to keep his cards close to his chest but reports are telling us that he has revealed his interest in Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas. The former Arsenal midfielder has overwhelming talent, but that is not the reason why I would suggest that he would be a bargain should he arrive at Stamford Bridge for the £30 million being touted.

The reason I think the move would be a good one is because of his ability to double up as a striker. Both for Barcelona and the Spanish national side, Fabregas has led the line of his side and is familiar with the false 9 role.

This is a tactic that Mourinho has used on a few occasions – most memorably at Manchester United with Andre Schurrle in that role. It didn’t work out spectacularly but Fabregas knows how to make an impact in that position.

Obviously Fabregas will always be best deployed as an attacking midfielder, but the fact Chelsea had such a troublesome up front last season will surely see this as an advantage.
