Suarez’s Actions Linked To Potential Barcelona Move – Why They May Be Insignificant

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has officially apologised to Giorgio Chiellini after biting the Italy defender in Uruguay’s recent World Cup game against the Azzurri.  What this means for 27-year-old forward’s future, however, is up for debate.

The Independent have suggested that the fact the apology came without Liverpool being acknowledged is a sign that Suarez may be trying to force through a move to Barcelona.  The idea that the whole incident occurred for this reason has also been mooted by some supporters and pundits.  It seems more likely, though, that people trying to envisage a narrative that simply isn’t there.

It is has been well established that Suarez has history when it comes to causing controversy.  The Uruguayan’s clash with Chiellini was the third high-profile incident involving him biting someone.  However, rather than being part of a conspiracy, it is entirely possible that Suarez is just someone who has trouble controlling himself on the pitch.

In no way should the forward’s globally condemned actions be defended, but trying to find a bigger picture to explain why he did it takes some imagination.  Despite all the drama, this is football not wrestling, and such events being pre-determined is highly unlikely.  Whilst Suarez continues to be a villain of the game, it is unfair to attach a bigger sense of evil to him than his actions deserve.
