Liverpool Eye USA Right-Back – Why Glen Johnson Could Soon Face Competition For The Reds

Glen Johnson came under some criticism for his performances at this summer’s World Cup, and was also singled out on occasions during Liverpool’s impressive season last year.  Rightly or wrongly, the Reds are believed to be looking at signing a new right-back.

This does not mean that Johnson should immediately fear for his place in Brendan Rodgers’ side, as the player in question is only just about to turn 21 years of age and is largely unknown in Europe.  The youngster’s name is DeAndre Yedlin and, according to the Metro, Liverpool are interested in taking him from Seattle Sounders, with the defender having made a name for himself with the United States national team in Brazil.

Yedlin flourished in 2013 for his hometown club, featuring 37 times in all competitions and scoring three goals.  Along with a handful of appearances for the United States’ under-20s, he seized the opportunities presented to him with both hands.  After a breakthrough year, the player and now finds himself on the verge of a starting place for his country’s senior side as well as being linked with the Premier League.

Whether Yedlin’s recent performances result in a transfer is yet to be seen but, as one of the brightest prospects in Major League Soccer, Liverpool could do far worse than picking up the talented youngster.
